Conversation on the right manner to treat female spouses keeps on with Canada’s Conservative Party head Erin O’Toole deliberately giving his wife wine after finishing his jogging session.

It started when the Opposition leader shared on Twitter last Friday, May 21, that his wife “had a cold one waiting,” referring to the bottle of beer that she prepared for him when he returned after his morning fitness routine.

“Starting the long weekend off right. Rebecca had a cold one waiting for me after my run. Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing long weekend,” he tweeted.

The normal gesture of caring between the pair was met with outrage concerning gender equality. Many critics complained that it hinted at the sexist idea that women should stay home waiting for their husbands.

Some of the comments demanded that O’Toole should have shown his wife respect by coming home with a beer or two for her, not the opposite. A few others gave attention to the drinking of alcohol after physical exercise.

The conservative knew what he had to do the following day.

O’Toole responded to the outrage with a picture of him giving his wife a rose and a classy glass of wine, himself wearing usual jogging outfit, meaning he might have returned home after completing his exercise.

Among the unconvinced critics, there were also those who found the sexist translation of many of his updates was just too much.

“I’m not a fan, I’ll never vote for you Erin….but this bringing each other drinks malarkey on you and Rebecca this weekend is complete garbage. Wifes and husbands bring each other drinks all the time. Good for calling it out. Still won’t vote for you,” Twitter user Maple Pirate said.

“I hate Erin O’Toole as much as the next person, but this whole thing is ridiculous. Rebecca getting him a drink is not misogyny, and he shouldn’t feel he has to prove to the world that he’s an equal partner. He’s awful for so many reasons, let’s focus on the important ones,” account El Destructo tweeted.
