A woman on an American Airlines Flight 1774 on July 6 had to be restrained after assaulting flight attendants who tried to stop her opening the cabin door whilst it was airborne.

The gray-haired woman was seen in a video posted to social media with silver duct tape over her mouth, and her arms and body wrapped to the seat on an American Airlines flight last week. The airline then claimed she assaulted flight attendants and attempted to open the aircraft’s door in midflight.

The video was filmed on Tuesday on American Airlines Flight 1774 as it flew from Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, to Charlotte, North Carolina.

An unidentified woman in first class could be seen in the video taken by TikTok user @lol.ariee, having duct tape strapped around her chest and mouth as she tried to yell at passengers departing the plane after it landed. She could be heard yelling, “You! You! You!” as passengers exited past her, as flight attendants politely nodded their goodbyes.

The commotion began one hour into the two-hour flight, when “all flight attendants were running up and down the aisles, frantically kind of whispering to each other,” @lol.ariee said in the follow-up video.

The crew of the plane began closing bathrooms and grabbing bags from overhead bins while refusing to tell what was going on, “it was just kind of like chaos and no one knows what’s going on,” she continued.

According to @lol.ariee, the pilot eventually spoke over the intercom and urged everybody to stay in their seats due to “a bad situation in the plane” but did not elaborate.

“Then we’re gradually starting to hear more and more screaming, and we’re like, ‘Wait a minute,’” she added.

A flight attendant sitting near the passengers stated a woman “had an outburst” and tried to get off the plane as the plane was landing.

“She was saying, ‘I need to get off this plane,’ and she went up to the exits and started banging on the doors, saying, ‘You need to let me off this plane!'” @lol.ariee recalled.

The woman began biting, spitting, and hitting flight attendants, causing the crew to “take her down” and duct-tape her mouth.

“I guess it took all five flight attendants to subdue her and like literally take her down so,” she said “They pretty much took her down, put her in the seat and duct taped her.”

The video has been viewed more than 4 million times.

American Airlines confirmed the woman assaulted and bit a flight attendant after she “attempted to open the forward boarding door.” She was detained “for the safety and security of other customers and our crew.”
