Walgreens mistakenly inoculated several patients with saline instead of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Virus or COVID-19 vaccine. The error, which happened at a store in Monroe, North Carolina, affected a “small number” of people, According to Fox Business,
Walgreens that it contacted each person who had been given saline by mistake and scheduled a COVID-19 vaccination, “As soon as the impacted patients were available to return to the pharmacy,”
“We are investigating what happened and have taken immediate steps to review our procedures with the location to prevent this from occurring again,” the company stated.
Patient Lisa Strawn said she was told that a pharmacist failed to mix the vaccine and just gave her a saline injection, New Week reported.
“I asked the guy, I said, ‘How did you figure out that we only got saline?'” she told WCCB’s reporter. “Well, at 5:00, when she called me and said she had a lot of vaccine leftover, what was she to do with it?’ and he said, ‘You shouldn’t have any vaccine left over,’ so that’s how they discovered it.”
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), saline injections can be used as a source of hydration and electrolytes. Patients with congestive heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disease should be given the medication with extreme caution.
The company also stated that the patients’ second dose would not be affected.
Walgreens was not alone in this case. At a Kroger clinic in Virginia, customers were vaccinated with empty syringes instead of the real CCP Virus or COVID-19 vaccine in March.
According to health experts, injecting someone with an empty syringe can pump air into a person’s body which can block blood flow.
Kroger said all vaccinators at the Midlothian clinic had been re-trained, and the company is working closely with The Virginia Department of Health to address the matter.
Both firms have been stepping up their attempts to vaccinate Americans, which has resulted in the two mishaps.
As part of the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program, Walgreens and Kroger started administering vaccines at the end of December.
Kroger’s pharmacies and clinics were already supplying one million doses a week by March.
Walgreens revealed last week that CCP Virus vaccines would be available in most of its 7,000 stores in 49 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, and from off-site clinics. As of April 12, the company claimed to have provided over 11 million shots.
Many firms have stopped using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after the FDA, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended a delay in its administration. Walgreen was one of them.
After being fully vaccinated against the infection, approximately 5,800 Americans have contracted the CCP Virus, of whom 396 required hospitalization and 74 died, CDC officials told CNN.
Infections that cause a relapse are uncommon but not unheard of. No CCP Virus vaccine that has received emergency FDA approval is 100 percent successful in preventing infection from the virus.
“Vaccine breakthrough infections make up a small percentage of people who are fully vaccinated. CDC recommends that all eligible people get a COVID-19 (CCP vaccine as soon as one is available to them. CDC also continues to recommend people who have been fully vaccinated should keep taking precautions in public places, like wearing a mask, staying at least six feet apart from others, avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces, and washing their hands often.”
The United States has vaccinated over 78 million citizens as of April 14. Case studies on breakthroughs are overdue and do not represent the most recent events.
