A Christian physical education teacher was charged by the school board and suspended from his position this week after stating in a speech that he would not “lie” to his students and “defile” God by saying that “a biological boy can be a girl and vice versa.”
Byron “Tanner” Cross, the teacher, made the statement at a Loudon County school board meeting Tuesday, the nonprofit group Parents Against Critical Race Theory charged.
Parents Against Critical Race Theory posted the video of Cross’ statement and attached a message of support for the Christian teacher asserting that radical leftists are meddling in our children’s education and making all the decisions:
“This elementary school gym teacher was fired because Chardonnay Antifa didn’t like what he said. Was it rude? No. Was he mean? Not at all. Was he respectful? 100%. So why was he fired? Because LCPS is run by radical leftists, and Beth Barts and Chardonnay, NAACP is calling the shots. They should ALL be fired.”
During the speech, Cross most respectfully expressed his opposition to new school district policies that demand all staff use student’s preferred gender pronouns and allow transgender students to participate in activities consistent with their gender identity rather than their biological sex.
“My name is Tanner Cross and I am speaking out of love for those who are suffering from gender dysphoria,” Cross said at the opening of his speech.
“’60 Minutes’ this past Sunday interviewed over 30 young people who transitioned, but they felt led astray because of lack of pushback or how easy it was to make physical changes to their bodies in just three months. They are now de-transitioning,” Cross continued.
Cross, during his dissertation, said that above all else, he considered himself a servant of God and assured that he would never lie to his students regarding the possibility that a biological boy could be a girl because it rightly goes against his religion.
“I love all of my students but I will never lie to them regardless of the consequences. I’m a teacher but I serve God first and I will not affirm that a biological boy can be a girl, and vice versa, because it’s against my religion,” he explained. “It’s lying to a child, it’s abuse to a child, and it’s sinning against our God.”
Following the teacher’s remarks to the school board, Fox News published an email purportedly sent by Shawn Lacey, the principal of Leesburg Elementary School, where Cross worked. The email informed parents that their children’s physical education teacher had been placed on administrative leave without further details.
“I’m contacting you to let you know that one of our physical education teachers, Tanner Cross, is on leave beginning this morning,” Lacey said in the email. “In his absence, his duties will be covered by substitute staff already working in our building. I wanted you to know this because it may affect your student’s school routine. Because this involves a personnel matter, I can offer no further information.”
The news comes amid an intense debate affecting the whole country about the subjugation that the radical left generates within education, imposing on the most children gender ideology and revisionist theories about race going against the country’s historical traditions.
