Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Dr. Anthony Fauci found themselves at loggerheads again in a heated exchange on Thursday, March 18, at the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or COVID-19 hearing in the Senate.

Paul accused Fauci of wearing a mask even after being vaccinated for the CCP Virus as “theater.” “You’ve been vaccinated, yet you parade around in two masks, for show,” said Paul.

“No scientific studies have shown significant numbers of reinfection of patients previously infected or previously vaccinated.

“What specific studies do you cite to argue that the public should be wearing masks well into 2022?” Paul asked Fauci. “If we are not spreading infection, isn’t it just theater?”

Fauci pointed out that vaccines and natural immunity were not against COVID-19 variants.

Fox News reported that Paul referred to one study that found no symptomatic reinfections and another that showed natural infection would prevent the vast majority of people from being hospitalized from the virus for many years.

“You’re telling everybody to wear a mask whether they’ve had the virus or had a vaccine. What I’m saying is they have immunity, and everybody agrees they have immunity,” Paul, who is a physician, told Fauci.

“Here we go again with the theater. Let’s get down to the facts,” Fauci retorted. “When you talk about reinfection, and you don’t keep in the concept of variants, that’s an entirely different ball game. That’s a good reason for a mask,” he said.

Paul retorted, “You are defying everything we know about immunity by telling people to wear a mask who have been vaccinated.”

“What study has found reinfection with severe symptoms with variants? You’re making policy based on conjecture,” Paul said.

“You want to get rid of vaccine hesitancy? Tell them they can quit wearing their mask after they get a vaccine,” the senator said, “instead of telling them the nanny state’s going to be there for three more years, and you’ve got to wear a mask forever. People don’t want to hear it, and there’s no science behind it.”

“If you have immunity, you’re wearing a mask to give comfort to others. You’re not wearing a mask because of any science,” Paul said.

“The point I am saying,” argued Fauci, “is that there are variants now circulating.

“We’re not dealing with a static situation for the same virus,” Fauci added.

A new study by the New York Blood Center found that all three FDA-approved vaccines show efficacy against COVID-19 variants, reported Fox News.

“Our analysis finds that there is more than enough evidence to support that the vaccines will work against mutated forms of COVID-19,” the authors of the study, published in Science Magazine, wrote. They added that the efficacy of the vaccine needs to be re-evaluated as new strains emerge.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has told drugmakers they will need to prove the vaccine produces a robust immune response against variants.
