Former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said that the United States needs to completely decouple from China as a measure to make it pay for spreading the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide.
“We are in a war with communist China,” Navarro told Fox Business.
He said that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been attacking Americans with “a bioweapon,” threatening Taiwan, taking Hong Kong, and continuing to steal intellectual property from the United States.
“They are an existential threat to this country, and we need to hold them accountable for this violence,” said Navarro, who served as trade adviser in former President Donald Trump’s administration.
The COVID-19 pandemic has infected more than 46 million Americans while killing more than 751,000, which resulted in trillions of dollars in economic losses.
Navarro said that to get China to pay the price, the United States should first wipe out more than $1 trillion in debt owed by Beijing. Then, it should confiscate all U.S. real estate assets—both commercial and residential—owned by members of the CCP.
In January 2020, Trump and Chinese Vice Premier Liu signed a phase one trade agreement that included commitments from Beijing. China agreed to purchase an additional $200 billion of U.S. products over the next two years, stop stealing American intellectual property, curb currency manipulation, and cooperate in financial services.
After signing the agreement, China has imported $198.8 billion in U.S. goods, compared with the $319.1 billion it should have reached in September 2021, according to the Peterson Institute for International Economics trade tracker.
Navarro said that President Joe Biden would not enforce the agreement, and China would never abide by the contract.
Last month, the Biden administration’s Trade Representative Katherine Tai said that China would follow the commitments that benefit certain industries. Still, the U.S. intends to roll back tariffs that have not helped America.
About $250 billion of Chinese imports are subject to a 25% tariff, and roughly another $125 billion of Chinese goods are under a 7.5% levy.
“The only thing we have defending American workers, American businesses and the American people right now is the Trump tariffs,” Navarro said. “Those tariffs are the last line of defense against the extreme economic aggression of Communist China.”
Navarro spoke with Fox Business days after releasing his new book, “In Trump Time: My Journal of America’s Plague Year,” where he pulls back the curtain on what happened in the White House during the pandemic and highlights Fauci’s destructive actions.
In the book, he also discusses how to make China pay for the economic damage caused by COVID and examines the 2020 election and the events of Jan. 6.
