CNN recently published Biden campaign emails with Facebook where they apply pressure to censor the Trump campaign ahead of the November 2020 presidential election. The news network openly calls for Facebook to make sure that Trump has no forum on its platform for fear that it will influence the midterm elections in 2022.
The note dated June 14, 2021, attempts to present a sense of ‘frustration’ at ‘how little’ the social network did to censor Trump before the presidential election and his supporters after the election, referring to the organization of the January 6 rally on Capitol Hill.
The example used by CNN is a video of the former president’s son, Donald J. Trump Jr., in which he calls for an ‘army’ of patriots to guard the polls in the election after Republicans anticipated possible voter fraud due to illegal pre-election changes.
Members of the Biden campaign and Democrats on the Democratic National Committee wrote to Facebook to ask that the video be taken down because it somehow incited violence.
“The fact that this video is still on your platform—and is being used to recruit some sort of, and I quote, ‘army for Trump’s election security effort’—is astounding. It is impossible to reconcile this with any of the policies regarding voting and voter suppression that Facebook has released over the past 3 years and emphasized to us privately in several dozen conversations,” a Biden campaign insider wrote.
Because by policy, social networks would not check election campaign ads, Facebook replied that they could not take it down, whereupon the Democrats, according to CNN, became enraged and continued to push for censorship, claiming that Facebook was not doing enough in ‘its mission to defend democracy.’
At that point, stated Jesse Lehrich, co-founder of Accountable Tech, “the entire Democratic Party basically came to see Facebook as a right-wing propaganda machine.”
Eventually, the censorship of Facebook, under pressure from Democrats, came to fruition. Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube censored all Trump accounts, and those attempting to repost his statements were also censored.
In its report, CNN celebrates that censorship is taking steps beyond Facebook. Now, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has a dedicated team ‘monitoring’ Trump’s programs on cable channels and radios.
With the approaching midterm elections in 2022, where Republicans could go on to win some seats in the House and Senate, CNN stresses in its note the importance of continuing to monitor that Trump and his supporters have no forum in which to display their messages, or expand their influence, so it sees it as vital to ensure that Trump is censored.
“Democrats are still particularly focused on Facebook because of the central role it plays in American discourse. Some now fear misinformation on the platform will hinder their efforts in next year’s midterms,” CNN wrote.
Trump’s policies are still more popular than Biden’s
Despite social media and mainstream media efforts, former President Trump remains highly influential in the Republican Party and many senators and representatives consider him the leader of the party.
Recent polls show that the former President’s policies regarding illegal immigration, his opposition to abortion, and left-wing indoctrination, among others, are more popular among Americans than the open borders, use of public funds to finance abortion, and ‘critical race theory’ indoctrination promoted by the Biden administration.
On Sunday, June 27, the former president held his first rally in Ohio, where an estimated 15,000 supporters turned out even though some states remain under pandemic restrictions.
His messages and virtual events have hundreds of thousands of times more participants than the current Democratic President Joe Biden.
