A woman has been arrested for torching an American flag on an overpass over I-66 in Arlington County, Virginia, police said.
The large flag was one of many displayed on area overpasses as part of a Sept. 11 memorial tribute, the Washington Examiner reported.
Kayla Caniff, 22, burned an American flag attached to a chain-link fence on the North Stafford Street overpass on Thursday, Aug. 29, at about 11:55 p.m., according to Arlington County Police.
Caniff was charged with property destruction, and she was later released on her own recognizance.
The day after the incident, Arlington County firefighters placed 16 American flags on I-66 overpasses to honor of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
They also unfurled a giant American flag at their Fire Training Academy.
