Former President Donald Trump has called for a boycott of Major League Baseball (MLB) and woke companies, including Coke and Delta after they decided to cancel the 2021 All-Star game in Georgia to protest the state’s new election law.

“Baseball is already losing tremendous numbers of fans, and now they leave Atlanta with their All-Star Game because they are afraid of the Radical Left Democrats who do not want voter I.D., which is desperately needed, to have anything to do with our elections,” Trump said in a statement released by Save America PAC on Friday, April 2.

“Boycott baseball and all of the woke companies that are interfering with Free and Fair Elections. Are you listening Coke, Delta, and all!” he said, referring to other companies that have opposed the new law.

Trump was responding to MLB after its commissioner Rob Manfred announced earlier on Friday that they would move the All-Star game to another city, saying the decision was “the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport” after Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed the new election legislation into law.

“Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box,” Manfred said in a statement.

The new law in Georgia requires an I.D. to get an absentee ballot, limit the number of ballot drop boxes, shortens the period in which a Georgia resident can apply for a mail-in ballot. Trump hailed Georgia lawmakers’ efforts to pass the election integrity legislation.

MLB protests the law, though its stadiums also often require photographic I.D.s, mobile tickets, and even proof of vaccination record or negative COVID test results to enter.

Not only MLB but many big businesses have also entered politics, seeking to thwart the will of the people in Georgia. Over 100 companies reportedly condemned the law, including Facebook, Google, Bank of America, Apple, Microsoft, American Express, and the Home Depot, beside Coke and Delta.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has called on Americans to go after MLB’s sponsors, who he said pressured to pull the All-Star game out of Atlanta.

“These are MLB’s corporate sponsors, who pressured to pull the All Star game out of Atlanta,” Cruz tweeted. “Do all of them oppose voter I.D.? Are all of them willing to be the woke enforcers of the corrupt Democratic Party? And do all hate the 75m who voted for Trump?”

Kemp also berated MLB over its decision, casting it as “cancel culture.”
