A Republican from the U.S. Western Pacific Commonwealth island recognized one of the world’s fastest-growing meditation movements for flourishing despite suffering decades of persecution.
The Municipality of Saipan has awarded a special plaque to help mark their 22-year anniversary of World Falun Dafa Day.
“This plaque of recognition of the 22nd year commemoration is given to Falun Dafa as it celebrates the World Falun Dafa Day on May 13, 2021,” the plaque said, according to a photo shared on the Minghui website.
Each year an estimated 70 million to 100 million people gather around the world on May 13 to show gratitude for the positive impact Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) had on their quality of life.
The founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi, who now resides in the United States, first publicly taught the standing and sitting meditation exercises and encouraged people through his lectures to live by the virtues of behaving truthfully, compassionately, and tolerantly in mainland China during 1992.
Mayor David Apatang (R) joined four Falun Dafa adherents from his local area for a photo opportunity on May 20, 2021. He expressed his desire for more Americans to benefit from Falun Dafa.
“In joining the rest of the world and most especially the United States of America, we wish Falun Dafa well in promoting its mission,” his office said on Facebook. “Given this 12th day of May, 2021 in the Municipality of Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.”
The number of people practicing has already spread to more than 90 countries worldwide and Falun Dafa books have also been translated into 40 languages, according to the Falun Dafa Information Center website.
However, this fast-growing popularity ultimately led the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to become increasingly unsettled by its rapid growth and the high number of influential party members who had joined.
In late 1999, Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin decided to arbitrarily arrest and torture adherents to death, confiscated and destroyed more than 2 million Falun Dafa books, and ordered state-run media to publish hundreds of articles that defamed the practice.
The two-decade human rights crisis has caused at least 4,641 known Falun Dafa adherents to be persecuted to death, with “tens of thousands more [cases] to be confirmed,” according to the latest data collected by the Minghui website.
The CCP’s policy to cremate the dead bodies of victims without asking permission from family members has only added to the difficulty in ascertaining exactly how many Falun Dafa adherents have been persecuted to death.
Falun Dafa adherents confirmed the CCP is still “violating human rights and the freedom of belief every day.”
“[CCP members] have made up lies, slandered Falun Dafa, imprisoned and killed Falun Dafa practitioners, and are harvesting their live organs,” the representative said according to the Marianas Variety News and Views.
Representatives expressed their “heartfelt thanks” to the Republican mayor and residents of Saipan.
“Your support of Falun Dafa demonstrates the recognition and support of island residents for universal values,” the representatives said. “The Saipan people and mayor respect human rights, and demonstrate the power of courage and justice–your actions are very precious so we sincerely thank you again!”
