Some people work at a job for a living, but they also have a passion for creativity or desire to bring satisfaction.
There is a story about a painter who was asked by the ship’s owner to paint his vessel bright red.
The painter did exactly what the owner asked. However, while painting, he came across a hole in the hull of the ship. The shipowner did not warn the painter or ask him to fix it, but the painter quietly patched the hole.
After he finished painting, he received his painting fee and left.
But the next day, the ship owner came to see him and wanted to pay him a more considerable sum of money.
The painter was surprised by this huge amount. He said that he had received his share of the wages yesterday. When he asked the reason again, the shipowner smiled and said that it was his salary for patching the ship’s damage. But the painter still did not understand why this amount was so large.
The shipowner recounted that when he asked the painter to paint the boat, he forgot to mention the hole in the ship’s hull.
When the new paint on the boat dried, the owners children took the boat out for a fishing trip.
His children did not know that the ship had a hole. He was not at home at that time.
When he returned and noticed his kids had taken the boat, he was very nervous and desperate because he remembered the hole in the ship.
He said, “Imagine my relief and joy when I saw them returning from fishing.” He was amazed and thought a miracle had happened.
He continued: “Then, I examined the boat and found that you had repaired the hole! You see, now, what you did? You saved the life of my children! I do not have enough money to pay your ‘small’ good deed.’”
Although the painter thought that his action was minor but necessary. The artist’s conscientious work had made the shipowner very grateful.
Along the way, you may have repaired numerous ‘boat holes’ for several people without realizing how many lives you’ve saved.
Intelligence is endowed, but compassion is a choice. If you choose to live honestly, compassionately, always thinking of others, then absolutely you will have a beautiful life as a result.
