After the U.S. State Department updated the U.S.-Taiwan Relations Fact Sheet, it removed words such as Taiwan is a part of China and does not support Taiwan’s independence.
In response, Zhao Lijian, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, opposed it during a press briefing, claiming that U.S. attempted to undermine the one-China policy.
In the past, the Chinese government distorted UNGA Resolution 2758. On April 20, it claimed that the US Secretary of Defense supports the one-China policy. Still, on May 6, the U.S. Department of Defense highlighted that its Secretary did not say so.
Taiwan Foreign Minister Wu Chiu-sup said he was pleased to see the U.S. clarify and dispel the Chinese government’s one-China principle.
